Fast, Reliable and Safe mode of Mobility

Amphibious - HoverCraft

The high-speed amphibious hovercraft Neptune 23 is designed to carry up to 2.1 tons of cargo or up to 22 passengers. Hovercraft belongs to the class of “passenger” hovercraft and is designed to transport passengers across water bodies in summer or winter, including those with a short-term shore leave. The boat is able to overcome smoothed ledges up to 80 cm high and not smoothed – up to 55 cm. The boat is able to reach speeds on water up to 80 km/h. Operation is allowed at outdoor air temperature from -40ºС to +30ºС and maximum wind speed up to 12 m/s at any time of the year during daylight hours.

Hovercraft in all cases of load can be operated in water areas, with waves not exceeding 1.2 m 1% security. The movement of the boat is allowed at the indicated wave both in the hovercraft mode and in the displacement mode. When driving on ice or a snow-covered surface, operation is permitted on reservoirs of all categories. It is allowed to operate on any other flat hard surface, on the marginal shallow water and marshy surface.

Bharat – India is a peninsular subcontinent surrounded by Indian Ocean on all three sides with multiple rivers flowing through it. Last mile connectivity to all remote areas through rivers and creeks is only possible with a Amphibious vehicle which can sail and slide over land and water with no extra cost of Infrastructure. Naturally India is blessed with superb water connectivity which can be further supplemented with amphibious vehicle like Hovercrafts to connect upstream villages and coastal population at economical cost.
A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is an amphibious craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud, ice, and other surfaces.

At Panew Ventures, we have started developing our design prototype in association with Russian manufacturers. The company aims to initiate assembly line in India under Make in India initiative and eventually will be developing suitable product in Joint Venture under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative of GOI. Panew ventures will be rolling out 2 models for commercial operations which can be widely used for urban public transport, tourism and 1 model for Medical and Rescue operation

The ship’s hull is made watertight, divided into 6 watertight compartments by 6 watertight bulkheads. As the material of the main body, set, foundations, sheet and profile rolled products from aluminum alloys are accepted. Sheet metal is used brand Amg5M, GOST 21631-76. Profile rolled products of the brand Amg6M or D16T in accordance with GOST 8617-75. The body of the hovercraft is riveted (with the exception of small parts made by welding). The impermeability of the outer contour of the boat and the corresponding transverse bulkheads is ensured. The tightness test is carried out in accordance with the scheme and test table. Protection of the hull against corrosion is ensured by the use of aluminum-magnesium alloys that are resistant to corrosion in river and sea water. Alloy D16 is replaced by AMg in marine-grade hulls. Additionally, painting of the outer and inner surfaces of the body with paints and varnishes is provided.

During the production of the hovercraft, many different options for internal equipment were made. As standard, the passenger compartment is equipped in the front with two soft passenger seats, including one for the captain.
Along the sides there are six double lifting sofa-lockers, under which life jackets and property are located. The covers of the sofas can be laid out, forming a berth measuring 1800×2000 mm in the aft part of the cabin. The arrangement of armchairs and sofas may vary. There are options with easy chairs for all passengers, with folding beds and a table, with a crane-manipulator, with a toilet, with a cargo platform and winches.
The cabin is made of a three-layer structure, the middle layer of which is insulation. The outer layer is made of fiberglass based on polyester resin with fiberglass reinforcement, coated with colored resin (gelcoat). The middle layer is made of tile foam. The inner layer is made of fiberglass, pasted over with lining – pile fabric.

Engine

Two engines of the American brand Cummins ISF 2.8, with a capacity of 150 hp each, are installed on the hovercraft. It is possible to increase the power up to 175 hp. by increasing the maximum crankshaft speed.
Four-stroke four-cylinder diesel engine with an electronic Common Rail fuel supply system, with an in-line arrangement of cylinders and pistons that rotate one common crankshaft, with an overhead single camshaft. The engine has a closed-type liquid cooling system with forced circulation. Combined lubrication system: under pressure and spray.
The Cummins 2.8 engine (Cummins ISF 2.8L) is installed on vehicles manufactured by GAZ OJSC, in particular on commercial vehicles of the GAZelle Business and GAZelle NEXT families. Due to its prevalence, the engine is well known to services, and spare parts and consumables for it are not expensive and can be easily found in stores. Today, we can safely say that this engine is the most common commercial diesel engine in Russia.
The engine is equipped with devices to facilitate starting at low temperatures. An electric coil is provided for heating the air in the intake manifold. The fuel filter is also electrically heated.
The Cummins ISF 2.8 engine has a very low fuel consumption.

The engines are equipped as standard with a turbocharger with an intercooler, that is, with pre-cooling of the air supplied to the pressurization. Thanks to the use of turbocharging, it was possible to provide high power and torque with a sufficiently small volume. At the same time, the presence of a turbine does not impair the efficiency of the engine – its fuel consumption in a car ranges from 8.5 to 10.3 l / 100 km, depending on the speed and mode of operation.

The engine has a traditional design. It is based on a one-piece cast cylinder block (made of gray cast iron) and a cast head; insert milled liners are used in the block, which facilitates cylinder repair. The crankshaft is also made of gray cast iron, it is integral with the pulley and toothed disk of the crankshaft position sensor.

The camshaft is one, located at the top. The engine has 16 valves (4 per cylinder), made of heat-resistant steel, their stems are additionally chrome-plated. The valve drive is traditional, through rocker arms. Interestingly, all valves have the same design, but are not interchangeable. Timing drive – chain.

The engine is equipped with common rail fuel equipment from Bosch, the fuel injectors are located on top, they are installed in the central part of the cylinder. This decision greatly simplified the engine without a significant deterioration in its performance. In general, Cummins ISF 2.8 is a simple, reliable and unpretentious engine with good performance and adapted for operation in Russian conditions. Thanks to design features, a simple device and the use of time-tested solutions, it was possible to achieve a high resource – the manufacturer claims an engine resource of up to 500 thousand km (for a car), in practice, the engine, with proper operation and maintenance, can last longer.
